Therese "Terry" (Messier) French of Chatham MA, formerly of Hartford CT, passed to eternal life on January 5, 2013. She was the loving wife of Robert "Bob" N. French for nearly 60 years. Born July 9, 1926 in Hartford, CT to Arthur and Anna (Roberge) Messier, she was one of four children predeceased by her sister Margaret, and brothers Alfred and Raymond.
She is a 1947 graduate of the nursing school of Hartford Hospital where she worked until she met and later married Robert French on February 14, 1953. Over the next decade their family grew. Therese's love for her family was the focus of her life to her dying day. Her hobbies; sewing, knitting and cross stitch, centered on enriching the lives of those she loved.
She was a devoted mother. She was active in her children's lives serving as president of the Mother's Club at South Catholic High School in Hartford where her daughters went to school. As the girls grew older, she worked as Assistant Head Nurse, and later Head Nurse for Avery Heights Convalescent Home in Hartford, CT.
Terry and Bob spent many years vacationing on Cape Cod where they eventually retired. Terry loved living on the Cape and enjoyed having her children, grandchildren and in the last years of her life great-grandchildren came for visits along with their many friends and extended family.
Terry was a devout Catholic who found solace and comfort in her faith. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in her youth. As a wife and mother she became an active member of Saint Lawrence O'Toole Church, both in Hartford, CT. When she and Bob retired they continued practicing their faith as members of Holy Redeemer Church of Chatham, MA. The members of the Hospice staff at Liberty Commons helped her remain connected to her faith during the last days of her life.
She leaves her loving and devoted husband, Robert and five children and their families. She will be forever missed and held in the hearts of her daughter Maggie French-Beltis and her husband Jerry; daughter K.C. French and grandson Cory; daughter Tricia Sevigny and her husband Marc; granddaughter Michelle Delisle and her husband Tim and great grandsons Jonathan, Andrew, and Nicholas; grandson Keith Sevigny and his wife Jenny; daughter Anne Gardiner and granddaughters Sarah and Lauren; daughter Mary Glod and her husband Greg and granddaughters Deanna and Maria and great granddaughter Andraya Marie.
She also leaves her sisters-in-law Alice Messier of Seattle, Washington and Norah French of Long Beach, California, and many nieces and nephews. Brother Al's children Judy and Janice, Brother Ray's children; Laura, Arthur, Raymond, Mary, Doris, Carolyn, and John, who predeceased her. John Cookson, son of Edward and Marjorie (French) Cookson, and Robert and Natalie French, children of Richard and Norah French
The family would like to express their profound gratitude to those that helped care for Terry in the last years of her life. She made many friends at Liberty Commons and they were a source of support for all of us. We will never be able to express our gratefulness sufficiently. We thank all of those who showed loving care toward her.
