Thomas Woodward Bishop, Sr., 89, a life-long resident of Jacksonville, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on August 20, 2013. He was born November 3, 1923 in Jacksonville, Florida and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School. He served in the Navy, graduated from the University of Florida, and worked for Winn Dixie Stores (DDI, Inc.) until he retired.
He met Margaret Glover in high school and was married in the chapel of First Baptist Church in 1944. They remained faithful members and were happily married for 62 years. Margaret went to meet the Lord on March 13, 2007.
He played football and basketball in high school, in the Navy and also at the University of Florida. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and other outdoor sports. He shared that interest with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed travel with family and friends throughout the US. He is respected by his family, the business community, and church members who knew him.
He is survived by his children, Thomas W. Bishop, Jr. and his wife Jenny, Connie B. Russell and her husband Wendell, and Terri B Harper and her husband Jim, eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers and one sister. Tommy will be missed by all.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. till 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 25 at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills, 850 St. Johns Bluff Road N. The graveside service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 26 at Evergreen Cemetery at 4535 Main Street. Turn in from Main Street at Evergreen & take Winona Road to Gate 5. Pastor Rob Christy will be officiating.
