Tommy Eugene Abner, age 67, passed away on September 6, 2011. Graveside services will be held at Parkhill Cemetery on Friday, September 9, 2011 at 12:00 PM, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd., Columbus, GA. Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday morning from 9:00 – 11:30 AM.
Mr. Abner was born on June 14, 1944 in Clarksville, TN. He was retired from the private contractor KLIMA on base at Fort Benning after 44 years of service as a barber. Mr. Abner was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Frank and Eunice Petrei.
Survivors include his wife, Karel Abner of Columbus; a step-daughter, Diane Harrell (Terry) of Preston, GA; a step-son, Jack James (Julianne) of Preston, GA; five grandchildren, Jessie, Shelby, Ciara, Zack and Jacob; his aunt Rosie Shankweiler of Oklahoma and two step-sisters, Pamela Huddleston and Genie Petrei; a sister-in-law, Sharon Reed and a niece, Karel Hancock.
Flowers are accepted but memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 1959 Hamilton Rd., Columbus, GA 31904.
