Van A. "Barkey" Keyser, born July 29, 1926, of Milton passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014, with family and loved ones by his side. Mr. Keyser is preceded in death by his parents Newman and Susie Inez Keyser; wife Maggie Keyser, brother/sister-in law Louis and Lucille Keyser.
At the young age of 18 he was drafted into the Army Air Corp and served during WWII. He retired after 33 years with civil service at Eglin Air Force Base.
Barkey lived life to the fullest and had many hunting and fishing stories to tell over his 87 years. He was still catching snapper in the Gulf of Mexico and gigging flounder off Sherman Cove and Appalachicola just last month. He loved to tell jokes and brought many laughs to all around him.
He is survived by his sons, Billy (Margaret) Keyser of Quincy, FL and Mike (Barbara) Keyser of Milton, FL, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many dear friends and relatives.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2014 at National Cremation and Burial Society, 5641 Hwy. 90, Milton, FL with service following at 2:00 p.m. Graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Serenity Gardens, 6208 Stewart Street, Milton, FL.
Pallbearers - Henry Weldon, Jeremiah Keyser, Michael Williams, Kevin Sowell, James King, Kevin Glover, Paul Wilson. Honorary Pallbearers – Larry Keyser, David Keyser, Sammy Keyser, Wiley Keyser, Dulley Cooper, and Cal Bodenstine.
