Venerando Avelar
Passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 11th at the age of 89.
Venerando was born July 26, 1922 in Santa Cruz, Flores Acores. He immigrated to Arcata in 1959 and worked at GP\LP Lumber Companies for 20 years until his retirement in 1979. His hobbies included gardening and woodcutting. He enjoyed visiting with his family and friends that would stop by. Our fondest memories were of his keen sense of humor and being so quick witted.
He is survived by his wife Olivia of 61 years , daughter Ida and husband Jim Lowe of Arcata, grandson Jason Lowe of McKinleyville and granddaughter Ashley Lowe of Henderson, Nevada, sister Maria Fialho in the Acores, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Venerando was proceeded in death by his parents Maria do Rosario and Antonio Avelar, sisters Luisa Avelar and Maria Costa, brothers Jose Antonio, Luis, Fernando and Hermino Avelar.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
A visitation and will be held February 15, 2012 at Paul's Chapel, followed by a Rosary. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Mary's Church on Janes Road in Arcata on February 16, 2012. Interment will take place at Ocean View Cemetery
