Vernon Cummings, 89, of Marcellus, passed away on Tuesday in Syracuse. Vernon was born and lived his life in Navarino, NY. He was married to Hendrina Louise Frenay for 62 years. Vernon was an avid sportsman, a member of the Navarino Volunteer Fire Department and also an Army veteran of WWII. Vernon worked for North American Van Lines and Terpening Trucking Company. After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling the country with Louise. Vernon had a positive effect on the people he met. He was a grandfather by blood and a grandpa by love. He was a second father and a grandpa to many. Vernon will be missed, but not forgotten by many.
Surviving are his sons, Glenn and Vernon "Jay" (Pamela), daughter, Cathy (Ed Scheppard) Mooney, a daughter-in-law, Anne Cummings, 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service will be held at 3 pm Wednesday in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Navarino NY. A reception will follow at the Navarino Volunteer Fire Department.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Navarino Volunteer Fire Department, 3276 Amber Road Syracuse, New York 13215.
