Vincent Amoruso passed away on September 21, 2010 at the age of 85. A first-generation Italian-American, he was born in Worcester, Massachusetts and as a young man helped run the family grocery store and ice cream parlor where he developed his knack for business. After serving in the US Marine Corp's 5th Division during World War II, he returned to help with his family's ranches, farms, and property developments in the Sacramento region. In 1952 he married his college sweetheart, Veronica (Silvey) and in 1960 the young family settled in West Sacramento after acquiring the Plaza Motel, where he worked as owner-manager for 36 years.
An active business owner, Vincent served as a board member on the West Sacramento Motel Owners Association. He was also active in the Italian Catholic Federation, Dante Club, East Portal Park Bocce Club, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Italian Cultural Society, and Our Lady of Grace Church. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 58 years, Veronica; seven children, Linda, Vincent Jr., Roselyn, Thomas, Gregory, Colette and Cynthia; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Our father will be greatly missed and with heavy hearts we are forced to let our wonderful, sweet, loving father go.
Vincent was known for his lively stories from the "old" country, his Cosby-like humor, love of jazz, and his business acumen. His best loved stories always bore a moral, with its oral history linked to the Etruscans, sharing his insights and wit.
