Virginia, a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana for the past twelve years, was the daughter of the late Major General George Ralph Meyer and the former Virginia Roget Robb.
She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, where her father was stationed with the Army. It was there she was given her nick-name "Manu" which is Hawaiian for "bird", as her father was an avid bird watcher. As an Army Brat she travelled extensively with her family throughout the United States. She also lived in Belgium and the Panama Canal Zone. She graduated from Kansas State University, with a degree in Home Economics and Art.
When her father was re-assigned to Fort Bliss as Commanding General, Anti-Aircraft Command, she settled with him in El Paso where she met her future husband. She also received a Master's degree in Education from Texas Western College, and taught school in El Paso for 35 years.
Manu loved gardening and entertaining her friends at elegant dinner parties which she planned and prepared. She was well known for her Epiphany parties.
While in El Paso, she was an active member of MOWW, the Roncalli Club, AAUW and the DAR. She was very active in the Church at St. Michael's Chapel at Fort Bliss where she served as Eucharistic Minister and Lector and a member of the choir for many years.
After living in El Paso for 57 years, she moved to Lafayette, Louisiana to be near her daughter.
She is survived by her daughter, Virginia A. Martin and husband Frank, of Lafayette, Louisiana; her son, August Louis Aimone Jr. and wife, Ruth, of Pearland, Texas; her eight grandchildren, Katherine Martin, Virginia Tomlinson, Karen Buzarde, Michael Martin, August Louis Aimone III, Lynn Aimone, Lisa Aimone, and Jennifer Russo; and her six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother, Margaret Schuster Meyer, her loving husband of thirty four years, August Louis Aimone Sr. and her sister, Carroll Louise Dickinson.
