Mrs. Virginia Wenstrom, age 90, died on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at her residence – Burcham Hills Retirement Center in East Lansing, MI. She was surrounded by the love of her family who she so dearly loved: son, Paul, his wife Jan, of Goodrich, their children, Elizabeth Williams (Ron), Sarah Hartley (Dan), Eric Metz (Kathryn and their daughter, Georgia), Amanda Metz, Annsley Metz and Ashley Metz; son, David, his wife Susan, of Lansing, and their sons, John Wenstrom (Katie) and Jeffrey Wenstrom. Virginia was born on July 21, 1924 at St. Lawrence Hospital in Lansing; the daughter of Charles and Carrie (Hamilton) Boehler. She graduated from Lansing's Central High School – Class of 1942 and Michigan State College – Class of 1946. Virginia was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church in Lansing. There she met Rev. Donald Wenstrom and they were married on June 14, 1947. They moved to Grand Blanc in 1948 where Rev. Wenstrom became the minister of the 1st Congregational Church. Don and Virginia returned to Lansing in 1971 when he was called to be the minister of Pilgrim Congregational-United Church of Christ in Lansing. Virginia was an active member of Pilgrim Church for the past 43 years. She was a member of the Lansing Chapter of PEO and enjoyed the fellowship shared with her PEO friends. Virginia cherished the memories she had of summers lived at Twin Lakes in northern Michigan. The family cottage, built of Michigan white pines in 1927, was the gathering place for family and friends for her entire life. Those good times at Twin Lakes will always be treasured by everyone who listened to the loons, fished for trout, played board games, told stories on the porch, walked around the lakes, cataloged wild flowers, gazed at the stars and simply enjoyed God's beautiful creation. In 2004, Virginia and Don moved to Burcham Hills Retirement Center where she resided for the past ten years. It was at Burcham Hills that Virginia coordinated the weekly Sunday church "vespers" services, especially enjoyed welcoming new residents and loved living there. Virginia's family would like to thank the staff and her friends at Burcham Hills Retirement Center for all the love, care and support they gave her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don, in 2007, and infant daughter, Mary Faith, her sister, Mildred (Boehler) Evans, and her brother, Paul Boehler.
