Vivian "Chris" Armstrong, 85, of De Soto, KS passed away Jan. 1, 2014. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m., Sun., Jan. 5th at Chapel Hill-Butler, 701 N. 94th St., KCK. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Mon., Jan 6th at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cancer Action, 1600 Washington Blvd, KC, KS 66102.
Chris was born Oct. 22, 1928 in Simpson County, Mississippi to C.C. and Zina Kennedy. She grew up in Mississippi and graduated as Valedictorian of Mendenhall High School. Chris moved to the Kansas City area and married J.C. Armstrong in 1948. She worked at the International Paper Factory for 33 years as a Quality Assurance Inspector and retired in 1989. While there, she was a member of the International Brotherhood of Paper Workers. Chris loved country music and often went to the Glens Opry in Tonganoxie to dance and spend time with friends. She enjoyed the outdoors and loved fishing, camping and gardening. Chris grew all her Southern favorites like okra, tomatoes, Field peas and always cooked amazing meals, especially her homemade biscuits with chocolate sauce. She loved watching the KC Chiefs and KU basketball, especially watching with her grandkids & other family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, C.C. and Zina Kennedy, her husband J.C. Armstrong, her brother Thurman Kennedy and her sister Dean Traxler.
Chris is survived by her sons, William Clif Armstrong (Mary), Kenneth Wayne Armstrong (Darlene Frazier); her grandchildren, Jayson Clifton Armstrong (Katie), William "Will" Armstrong, Brianna "Breezy" Armstrong Hunt (George), Kaleb Armstrong, Erika Frazier Durman (Will) and Vannessa Frazier; sister, Wandell Hayman as well as four great-grandchildren and many other friends and family members.
