Warren, 91, was born in Sutton, Massachusetts, but called San Diego his home since first coming here with the Navy in the 40's. Warren enlisted in the Navy in 1940 and served on the legendary USS Marblehead with the U.S. Asiatic Fleet at the start of WWII. He proudly served our country in combat throughout WWII and during the Korean War, he then continued to serve with the Navy Reserves as an officer, giving a total of 40 years of service when he retired as Captain in 1980. In 1996 he was named Honorary Admiral, U.S. Asiatic Fleet, by Secretary of the Navy, John Dalton, for his continued support of the U.S. Navy and those who served. During his reserve years he also worked for the San Diego City School District for over 25 years as a teacher, counselor and administrator. In addition to this, he worked as an Inspector with the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, from which he also retired. He loved his fellow Veterans and helped establish the Veterans Museum and Memorial Center in Balboa Park in 1989. He was also the Co-Founder of the Memorial Day events at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery and humbly served there for over 12 years. He was passionate about service and was involved with over 40 community groups over the course of his life. He spoke about his Naval service and life experiences at schools and civic groups and onboard the USS Midway Museum as a volunteer historian. He served in leadership roles with such groups as Navy League, Holiday Bowl, Naval Reserve Association, Reserve Officers Association, Hellenic Cultural Society and was still attending his beloved groups such as the MOWW, MOAA, Hammer Club and Wolf Pack until he passed away.
