Mr. Walter Austin, a long-time resident of Amityville, L.I., died Sunday, July 29th, 2012. He was 86 years old.
Mr. Austin was born in Copiague, L.I., to his late parents, Walter and Helen (nee Duerr). He succeeded in his career as a Draftsman with Local #28, from which he retired. He was a proud military Veteran, having served our country with the United States Air Force. Mr. Austin was a member of the Amityville-Copiague American Legion.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Marguerite (nee Koehler), two sons, Larry and Keith; grandchildren Joseph and Jennifer; and great-grandson Tyler. . Surviving are his children Diana Hamlett and son-in-law, Brad; Dawn; Walter; Matt and daughter-in-law, Rita; Michael and David. He is also survived by his fifteen grandchildren - April, Chelly, Christine, Christopher, David, Heather, Corey, Teresa, Timothy, Andrew, Michael Edward, Ashley and David Henry; and his great-grandchildren - Christina, Joseph, Dylan, Jennifer, Alanah, Billy Ray, Brittany, Catherine, Jessica, Joanna, Kristian, Aiden, Maddox and Braylee.
Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Thursday, August 2nd, from 2-4:30 and 7-9:30 p.m. On Thursday evening, the American Legion will offer services at 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, August 3rd at 9:30 a.m., at St. Martin of Tours R.C. Church in Amityville. Interment will follow at Trinity Cemetery, Albany Avenue, Amityville; with Military Honors conducted by the U.S. Air Force Ceremonial Guard.
