Mr. Wayne S. Lackey, Sr.
Funeral Services for Mr. Wayne S. Lackey, Sr., age 85 of Vinemont, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2014 in the Moss-Service Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery where full military honors will be rendered, with Bro. Kerry Cleghorn officiating.

Mr. Lackey was born in Cullman County to the late, Benjamin Frank and Effie Love Lackey on August 8, 1928. He passed away at Cullman Regional Medical Center on Monday, December 30, 2013. Wayne retired from the U.S. Army after 27 years of service. During that time, he was in two wars, the Korean and Vietnam. In both, he was wounded and received two (2) Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars and one Silver Star. After his retirement, he came home and went to Wallace, and then worked at Cullman Products and Woodland Village Nursing Home. Wayne was a member of 7th Street Baptist Church, and he loved "all of his children". Also after retiring from the Army, he continued to serve, he held the office of Commander of the local VFW Post on three different occasions, and designed and supervised the building of the current Post.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one, sister, Doris Moon; and three brothers, William, Kyle and Ollie "Buddy" Lackey.
Survivors include his Wife of 62 years – Betty Wynn Lackey; one Daughter – Rhonda Lackey Cupp; one Son – Wayne (Vicky) Lackey, Jr.; three 3 – Grandchildren – Shane (Tonya) Cupp, John (Brandi) Bach and Bill (Amy) Bach; four 4 – Great-Grandchildren – Hunter Cupp, Lawson Bach, Virginia Bach and Sophie Bach; two 2 – Special Great-Granddaughters – Lily Hastings and Ella Abbott; one Sister – Sarah Klensatimitz; and one Brother – Paul (Jean) Lackey.
The family will be receiving friends for visitation on Thursday, January 2, 2014 from 5:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
