Wendell Lee Bean, age 66, died Wednesday, June 1, 2011, in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Faith Baptist Church of Iowa Park officiated by Rev. Jerry Miller of Decatur, Texas, Dr. Ted Spear of Iowa Park, Texas, Mr. Dennis Mitchell of Harlingen, Texas, Mr. Ronnie White of Eastland, and Judge Janice Sons of Wichita Falls, Texas. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home.
Wendell was born November 5, 1944 in Brownfield, Texas to W.L and Faye Bean. He and Betty Engledow were married June 21, 1961 in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was a resident of Iowa Park for 53 years. He was an active member of Faith Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. Wendell was currently employed as rig manager for Union Drilling Company where he worked for 5 years. He worked for Spruiell Drilling Company, Vinson Drilling, E.W. Moran Drilling and Sitton and Norton Drilling Company. He attended Wichita Falls Barber College and owned and operated a barber shop in Iowa Park. He also worked for Bridwell Ranch in Windthorst, was a Trooper for Texas Department of Public Safety for 13 years, owned and helped operate BB's Ski Wear for 11 years, was a Deputy for the Wichita County Sheriff's Department for 15 years, and owned and operated a lawn care business for 13 years.
Wendell was a true cowboy and outdoorsman. He was an avid snow skier. He loved his horses and was a horse farrier for several years. He was also a member of the Mavericks of Wichita Falls.
His parents and son, Michael, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty of Iowa Park; children, Angel Sheets and husband, Skip of Iowa Park, T.J. Bean and wife, Kaydee of Iowa Park, grandchildren, Courtney Powell and husband, Jake, Carrie Farr and husband, Garrett, Caleb Bean, Reyna Bean, Randon Bean and Berklee Bean; great grandchildren, Shelbi Powell, Ayden Farr and Abigail Farr, and sister, Elaine Stewart and husband, Luke of Iowa Park.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2011 at Dutton Funeral Home Chapel.
