Wilbert W. "Bill" Aggas died Thursday, March 17, 2011, surrounded by his family.
Bill was born in Miami, Manitoba, Canada, May 29, 1921. He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Lillian Aggas, brothers Herbert George and Arnold, sisters Dorothy and Jean and his first wife Penny.
The family moved to Detroit, Michigan, when Bill was a young boy. The jobs Bill held over the years were produce manager and checker at A & P Market, helped in his Dads' ice business; garage door manufacturing, boat maintenance and car sales.
After moving to California in 1961 he and his brother opened a T.V. sales and repair business. After a short stint at Rubottoms Cabinetry he went to work at Naval Civil Engineering Lab, Port Hueneme as a Planner/Estimator/Carpenter and he retired in 1986 after twenty three years.
He served his country from 1942 to 1945 during World War II in the Army Air Corp. as an MP in Belem, Brazil, and then he was transferred to Ft. Benning, GA., where he trained as a paratrooper. His unit was deployed to England and France but didn't see combat because Patton and his troops had ended the conflict there.
Upon his return from military service he married his hometown sweetheart, Penny Allen, in 1946.
His hobbies included gardening, carpentry, reading, coin collecting, U.S. history, baseball and travel.
Bill is survived by his by his second wife of nineteen years Sue. In addition he is also survived by his daughter Christine Baker, daughter and son-in-law Lauretta and Mark Dirickson, and son Bill, Jr., step-daughters Laura Ferre and Linda Tuttle and their husbands Craig and Dan; Grandchildren Gary, Cameron, David and Sheila; step-Grandchildren Roy, Erin, Jessica and Heather and Great-Grandchildren Allison, John and Lauren, brother and sister-in-law Ed and Freddie Aggas and sister Joy Aggas.
Graveside services will be held at Ivy Lawn Cemetery, Ventura, CA., on Friday, April 1st, 2:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Church of The Living Christ, 190 E. El Roblar, Ojai, CA., on Saturday, April 2nd, 1:00 p.m.
