Wilbur B. Drewitz
July 27, 1925 - September 20, 2013
Wilbur Bernard Drewitz went to be with the Lord on September 20, 2013. He was born in Milwaukee, WI on July 27, 1925 to Ernest and Ernestine (Siewert) Drewitz and lived in Gleason, WI until he joined the Navy in 1943. He served on board the USS Washington during World War II as a Seaman First Class. The Washington was actively engaged in 15 major combat missions of which Wilbur was a participant in 9 throughout the Pacific are, including Guam, Saipan, and Tinian in the Marianas, Leyte Gulf in the Philippines, Iwo Jima, Okinawa and others in between.
Wilbur (Wibs) was a letter carrier for the Redlands, California Port Office and enjoyed bowling on the Pure Gold team with other letter carriers.
Fishing for trout was one of his enjoyments. Wibs and Donna trolled for the wary fish and caught many limits. They also had good times traveling in their RV's, playing golf in many states and also Canada as well as sightseeing in all 50 states.
Wilbur leaves his wife Donna of 67 years, 7 children: Carol (Tim) Rochford, Sandra (Steve) Owens, Ronald Drewitz (Terri), Ralph Drewitz, Judith (Dennis) Sechrist, Sherry Jones and Larry Drewitz; 22 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and 3 sisters: Ruth Grohman, Elaine (Charles) Rahlf and Marilyn (Jim) Zyskowski. His parents and brother Howard preceded him in death.
Pallbearers are grandsons Stephen Owens, Todd Rochford, Brandon Drewitz, Christopher Sechrist, Adam Polly and Tyler Drewitz. Honorary pallbearers are grandsons Scott Owens, David Sechrist, Chad Owens, Bradley Drewitz, Aaron Polly, Timothy Drewitz and Daniel Drewitz.
The viewing will take place at Weaver Mortuary & Crematory located at 1177 Beaumont Ave. in Beaumont, CA on Tuesday, September 24 from 4-8 pm.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, September 25 at 11:30 am located at the Bryant Street Baptist Church on 13456 Bryant Street in Yucaipa, CA.
A military graveside service will take place at Riverside National Cemetery on Monday, September 30 at 12:15 pm.
