Dr. Willard A. Gray, 87, a long-time resident of Cartersville, GA, passed away on Monday, November 19, 2012, following a brief illness.
He ran a successful chiropractic practice in Cartersville for 60 years. Dr. Gray was a member of the Elks Club, Kiwanis Club, and Sam Jones Memorial Methodist Church, where he served as an usher. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He is survived by his wife, Martha; and three daughters, Dawn Gray, Debbo Gray and Sunny Carver; as well as a brother, Dr. Winfred Gray, and son-in-law, Major General Douglas L. Carver. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Brooke Christmas, Laura Fulmer, Jesse Williams-Hines, Gillam Campbell, and Carolyn Williams; five great-grandchildren: Aidan Christmas, Lorelei Christmas, Madeline Fulmer, Maddox Fulmer, and Willa Hines. Dr. Gray was preceded in death by his sisters; Patti Gray Platt, Sue Gray, and an infant son; Douglas A. Gray.
Dr. Gray is remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He and Martha would have celebrated 66 years of marriage on December 25th. He also cultivated deep friendships during his lifetime. Some of his favorite pastimes included burning fires in his outdoor chimney while listening to Willie Nelson records. His was a life well lived.
Dr. Gray was loved and admired by so many people in Cartersville and beyond. A graveside memorial service for Dr. Gray was conducted Thursday, November 29, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens with Chaplain Doug Carver and the Rev. Tommy Green officiating. Military rites were provided by the American Legion Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 Honor Guard.
