William Russell "Bill" Armistead – a 79 year-old native of Tuscaloosa, AL and longtime resident of Mobile passed away Monday, December 24, 2012. Mr. Armistead served the Mobile area as a Pharmacist for over 50 years. He was an expert on 19th century artillery and a member of Lumsden's Battery for over 20 years. His expertise was achieved by historical research, and many expeditions that he organized. Author of many articles, preserver of artifacts, and lecturer, Mr. Armistead was respected by all that knew him. He was preceded in death by his son, Joey Armistead; parents, Joe Henry and Frankie Hughes Armistead; and brother, Robert Armistead. Mr. Armistead is survived by his wife of 32 years, Jill Armistead; children, William R. "Rusty" Armistead, Jr. and daughter, Terry Criswell (Lee); step-sons, Rick Breazeale (Tammy) and Mark Breazeale (Cassie); nine grandchildren, 1 sister, many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Friday, December 28, 2012, at 12 noon. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
