WILLIAM H. BARNETT, 87, of Collierville, was promoted to Glory after a short illness. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m., Wednesday, October 26, with a Memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. at Collierville United Methodist Church on Poplar Ave. Burial in Mount Olive Cemetery, Dyer, TN. Born July 16, 1924 in Dyer, Tennessee, Bill served the U.S. Army Infantry Division during World War II. He retired from the Bell System as a Plant Manager after 43 years of service. Bill was a lifetime member of the Tennessee Optimist Organization serving as Tennessee Optimist Governor during 1995-96 and Tennessee District Chairman of Optimist International's Junior Golf Championship program for six years. He was a member of the Collierville United Methodist Church. Bill was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane C. Barnett. He is survived by his wife, Nora; his daughter, Denise T. Dunlap; son, William H. Barnett II; and stepchildren, Jim Powell, Jackie Seymour and stepgrandchildren, Jenny Cox, Jamie Childers, Lori Wilson, Megan Vaughn and Anna Newman. Memorial gifts may be given to the Master's Building Plan of Collierville United Methodist Church.
