Peacefully, in his 92nd year with family at his side, Bill's life on this earth came to a close on March 29, 2010, at Chelsey Park Nursing home in London, Ontario. Survived by his son Dr. Paul Bates and wife Nancy Weber of London.
Grandpa will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Patricia Wood, (Gib), Michael, Andrew, Matthew, (Catharine) MacDonald Killoran.
He is also survived by his great grandchildren Mitchell, Melanie, and Taylor Wood. He will be fondly remembered by his sister Helen Cutting of Charlottetown, P.E.I. Bill was predeceased by his wife of 56 years Miriam Bates and his grandson David Bates. He enjoyed a long and relatively healthy life until the last two years. He had many happy memories of growing up in Toronto, a 36 year career as a pilot at TransCanada Airlines / Air Canada. In later life he enjoyed world travel, gardening, as well as his many friends at the Scottish Country Dancing.
Bill was a man who gave a steady support to those around him, helping young people with positive advice and needed assistance. He was a marvellous caregiver for his parents and wife during their final illnesses.
