William Flaherty Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 26, 2014.

William "Bill" Flaherty, formerly of Solvay, NY, passed on July 20, 2014 at the age of 92. Bill is survived by his wife, the former Betty Reale, of 70 years, 4 children, 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 5 siblings, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. One of 12 children, his family tree was extensive. Bill was loved deeply by all of his relatives, friends, and co-workers. Many refer to him as their favorite uncle, a gentleman, and an admirable man.
Devoted to his family, Bill attended many family functions throughout the years to enjoy reminiscing, playing pitch and bocce, and showing his support of all of our accomplishments. During his free time, Bill was a voracious reader and an avid golfer. He also enjoyed technology and working with wood by making furniture or refinishing antiques.
With a desire to serve others, Bill enlisted in the Navy and was a proud WWII veteran from 1942-1945. When he returned home, his aspiration to help others carried through with his faith as he was active in his church, St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church. While helping his church and working, he attended and graduated from Syracuse University in 1952 on the GI Bill. After, Bill went on to work for General Electric Co. for over forty years.
Bill was a straightforward, loving man. We were blessed to have him in our lives since his presence touched many, and we are the better for it. His funeral mass was held on July 25, 2014, and he will be buried in the Syracuse area at a later date with his beloved and devoted wife.
Donations made be made to St. Cecilia's Church, 1001 Woods Rd, Solvay, NY 13209.
