William Douglas Sloan, Major USAF retired, died Sunday, November 11, 2012. He was born June 30, 1940, in Dalhart, Texas to Mary Lou and Hiram Sloan.
Bill graduated in 1958 from Amarillo High School in Amarillo, Texas, then entered the Core of Cadets at Texas A&M University. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant, and went to pilot training in Del Rio, Texas. He retired as a Major after 21 years in the United States Air Force.
After his retirement, he was a software designer and served as a private consultant for businesses in the Raleigh area. He enjoyed boating, camping, college football and the Dallas Cowboys.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty Sloan, sons Michael Sloan of Richmond, VA, Casey Patrick and his wife Joy of Midland, GA, grandchildren John Sloan of College Station, TX, Brooke Sloan of Bartlesville, OK, Shannon and Benjamin Sloan of Midland, GA, brothers Hiram C. Sloan of Malibu, CA and Gary Sloan of Sacramento, CA.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, November 18, 2012, at 2:30pm at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 4415 Pleasant Grove Church Road, Raleigh, NC 27613. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.
