Willie "Jean" Stevens, 92, of Inez passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014. She was born July 6, 1921, in Old Gulf, Matagorda County, Texas, to the late Susie Leora Berry Lowe and Willie Cleveland Lowe. She was a member of Telferner Methodist Church since 1962. She taught Sunday school, was president of the United Methodist Women and served on the Church Board for many years. She was a member of Telferner Home Demonstration Club and served as a council member and was awarded H.D. Woman of the Year in Victoria County. She was a member of the Guadalupe Victoria Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She served on the Victoria County Museum board as secretary for 8 years. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW to Post 4146 and served as President in 1965. She was a Lottery Specialist at the Victoria Claim Center employed by the state of Texas. She received an award for community action forum in May of 1965.
Survivors include her children, Patricia Jean Head, and husband, Mike of Belton, Morris Isaac Stevens, Jr., and wife, Ellen of Hondo, Charles Robert Stevens, and wife, Charlene of Victoria; sister, Betty Carpenter and husband, Earl of Alvin; six grandchildren, Morris Isaac Stevens III, Peter Thomas Stevens, Shelby Head Jordan, Mary Beth Head Lamont, Charlie Stevens and Catherine Stevens; and 10 great-grandchildren, Rouke Stevens, Dante Stevens, Asha Stevens, Rebecca Stevens, Hannah Stevens, Rachael Lamont, A. J. Jordan, Christian Jordan, Sandra Jordan and Brandy Jordan.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Morris Isaac Stevens.
The family will receive friends Monday, April 21, 2014, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Rosewood Funeral Chapels.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Hirschhauser Cemetery, Pastor Larry Green and Rev. Charles D. Stephens officiating.
