Wilma Marie Poe, 89, of Ventura died Wednesday, June 26, 2013 in Ventura following a brief illness. Wilma was born April 27, 1924, in Gardena, to William and Emma Simms. She had been a resident of Ventura for the past thirty-one years.
Wilma attended schools in Gardena, graduating from Gardena High School in 1941. She went on to UCLA where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree and then received a Master's Degree in Library Science. Wilma taught school in the Los Angeles Unified School District and then became Librarian Administrator for all of the elementary schools in the district. She retired in 1988, after having been in education for thirty-three years.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Friendship Club, Emblem Club, Friends of the Library and the Retired Teachers Association.
Wilma is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie and Dean Sexton of North Hollywood; nephews, William Long of Simi Valley and Robert Long (Rosemary) of Benicia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert D. Poe in November 2006.
Services will take place Thursday, July 11, 11:00 A.M., at Roosevelt Memorial Park, 18255 South Vermont Avenue, Gardena, California.
