CATAHOULA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Mr. Wilmer Blanchard, age 81, at 11:00 am Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at St. Rita's Catholic Church with Fr. Richard Fabre officiating. Interment will be held at St. Michael's Cemetery in St. Martinville with military honors by St. Martin Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held at the Dion Hall in Catahoula from 11:00 am on Tuesday until service time on Wednesday. There will be a Rosary at 6:30 pm on Tuesday.
A native of St. Martinville and resident of Catahoula, Mr. Blanchard passed away at 9:52 am on Monday, November 5, 2012 at his residence.
Mr. Blanchard was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was employed in the Oil & Gas Industry for many years as a Boat Captain. He enjoyed cooking and loved spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. He will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Arsene Doucet Blanchard of Catahoula; one son, Arliss Blanchard of Rayne; three daughters, Rachel Doucet Courville of Catahoula; Rosalyn B. Dartez and husband Ben of Catahoula and Crystal B. Blanchard and husband Allen "Bert", Jr.; nine grandchildren, Lindsey Doucet, Coby Courville, Keara Blanchard, Bryson Dartez, Devin Blanchard, Bethanie Doucet, Kaden Dartez, Daniel Blanchard and Avyn Blanchard and three sisters, Marie B. Broussard and husband Stanley and Lucy B. Fournet all of St. Martinville and Cecile B. Koenig of New Iberia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Corinne Albert Blanchard.
Pallbearers will be Arliss Blanchard, Allen "Bert" Blanchar, Jr., Ben Dartez, Coby Courville, Carl Boussard, Lindsey Doucet and Perry Doucet.
