Woodrow Wilson Lewis, Sr. 1917 - 2013
Woodrow Wilson "Snorky" Lewis, Sr., passed away March 24, 2013.
He was born December 4, 1917, in Woodville, Florida and lived in the Woodville community his entire life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howell Green Lewis and Joanna Alligood Lewis; his wife of 62 years, Raye Rogers Lewis; brothers, Henry Felkel Lewis and H.G. "Bobby" Lewis; and sisters, Inez Linton, Rachel Lewis, and Mary Benedict.
Wilson attended Woodville Elementary School and Florida State University School. He enlisted in the Army during World War II, serving in Italy and North Africa. Upon his return, he trained as an electrician at Lively Vocational Technical School and then worked at Florida State University as an electrician for 30 years, retiring in 1980. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and traveling. He was an avid Seminole booster, and especially enjoyed attending FSU football and baseball games. Gardening was a favorite activity and he enjoyed sharing the vegetables with friends and family. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, FSU Letterman Club, American Legion, Moose Lodge, and Woodville Men's Club. He attended Woodville United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his three sons, Woody (Kathy) Lewis, Rick (Martha) Lewis, and Terry (Hilda) Lewis; six grandchildren, Victor Lewis, Dan and Sam Blount, Jarrett, Brandon, and Suzanna Lewis; six great grandchildren, Riley Dodd-Lewis, Gabe, Haley and Shiloh Blount, Grayson and Claire Lewis.
The visitation will be Wednesday, March 27, from 6 to 8:00 pm at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, Riggins Road Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, March 28 at Woodville United Methodist Church, followed by a graveside burial service at Woodville Cemetery. Donations can be made in his name to Big Bend Hospice or Woodville United Methodist Church.
