Worth Slade Russell, Jr. "Squirrel", 74, died Friday, May 11, 2012 at CMC University after a five year battle with cancer. A native of Charlotte, he was born on June 12, 1937 to the late Worth Slade Russell, Sr. and Della Yandle Russell. Mr. Russell was a retired Charlotte Police Officer and had served in the N.C. Air National Guard for over forty two years. He was past president of the N.C. State Fraternal Order of Police, a 32nd Degree Mason, member of the Oasis Shrine and member of the Scottish Rights. Mr. Russell also served as a NASCAR Promoter for Promotions in Motion.
The family will received friends from 7:00PM to 9:00PM, Monday, May 14th at the Derita Chapel of McEwen Funeral Service, 6300 Mallard Creek Road.
At Mr. Russell's request, the graveside service will be private.
Mr. Russell is survived by his wife of fifty one years, Linda Knight Russell; two sons, Worth S. Russell, III, of Charlotte, Clifton D. Russell and wife Ailene, of Sharon, SC; a daughter, Adona R. Bost and husband Ronald, of Harrisburg; nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
