A.W. Mingia, Sr., 90, of Spring Hope, NC peacefully went to be with his Heavenly Father on September 15, 2016. He died peacefully at the home of his daughter, which he called home for the last five years. Angel Harris, his granddaughter was his primary caregiver for the first four years. Their bond was beautiful and they lovingly called each other "Best Buddy". They laughed and talked all the time and together, each night they recited The Lord's Prayer, the 23rd Psalm, Philippians 3:20, 21 and Psalm 91. Those scriptures became his favorite scriptures and the scriptures that bought strength to his caregivers, his daughter Sylvia and his granddaughter Angel.
Mr. A.W. Mingia, Sr. was born September 1, 1926 to the late Theophelius and Pearlie Anderson Mingia. He attended Taybron Elementary School in Nash County and graduated from Spaulding High School located in Spring Hope, NC. He joined the US Navy in 1945 and served over two years. After his return from serving his Country, he married Ruby Mills Dunston. To this union seven children were born. Ethel Eileen Mingia and Carol Mingia Porch proceeded him in death.
A.W. was a genius when it came to fixing things, especially a cars. He was super creative in building anything, especially if he could add a motor. He was serious about his business and helped everyone that needed a mechanic. On more than one occasion A.W. worked with other businesses, however; his garage, built next to the home, was where he could be found, working late into the night to meet his obligations to his clients.
During his early childhood, A. W. joined White Oak Baptist Church located on NC 97. Early 1993 he rededicated his life to Christ and became a faithful member of Faith Hope Holy Church located in Spring Hope, NC. He was truly committed to the ministry and to his loving Pastors; Gary and Christine Davis. He was a dedicated and active member, never absent or tardy for Bible Study, Sunday School or Sunday Morning Worship. Serving as church Trustee, he maintained the church building and grounds making any necessary improvements. Because he grew spiritually, without reservation, he was elevated to the office of Deacon. His relationship with his church family continued until his death and Pastors Gary and Christine Davis always made the trip from Spring Hope and later from Fayetteville every couple of months during this five year period.
To cherish his memory, A. W. leaves his wife, Ruby; Three daughters, Linda Carter, Doha Qatar; Sylvia Bowden, Greensboro, NC; Debbie Mingia, Nashville, NC; Two sons; A.W. Mingia, Jr, Kuwait and Timothy Mingia (Carolyn), Spring Hope, NC ; one sister, Evangelist Marie Mingia Ray; 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter and one son-in-law, Wesley R Porch (Carol), Orlando, FL, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, many friends and a wonderful nurse aide, Quiana Leak, who cared for and loved him as if he were her own grandfather.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave, Greensboro, NC 27405.

Daddy, I'm thinking about you today and cherishing the great memories I have of the times you shared so many stories about your childhood with me. I am remembering the vacations you, mama and I took, and sometimes you even let Jared tag along. You said we could go anywhere as long as it was not outside North Carolina and I could drive to because you were not going to fly. We went to so many places and had so much fun. I once asked you why you didn't go to college and pursue a different life style, because I knew you to be a genius. You replied that you wanted to be your own man, that you didn't want anyone to own you or your ideas. You were definitely your own man and you lived by your own rules. Just knowing you were there gave me a sense of a kind of belonging. I miss you and I will forever hold our memories close to my heart. RIEP.......until we meet again.

Pop,
So since you are gone I guess auntie will take your portion of jokes cracked on me! So that means that she will thoroughly enjoy cracking DOUBLE the jokes on me. It will definitely be different visiting gramma next time. One thing that I will always keep with me is that you were definitely a hard worker. And that taught me to be a hard worker no matter the situation. I remember visiting Gramma Ruby and hardly ever seeing you because you were always out fixing something. You will truly be missed. We love you

To my daughter Angel,
I could never have made it without you. You understood my every emotion, and always quoted scriptures for me to stand on. Yes daddy was your granddaddy, but watching you care for him and sacrifice your career left no doubt that you are a very "SPECIAL ANGEL". We have so many memories of daddy laughing and joking because of you. Continue to trust God and keep the Word first in your life. Mama
