Abe Meeks Owens, Age 89, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 10, 2016. He attended Acipco School and always participated in the Acipco School RAeunions each year. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, retired as yard foreman from CSX Railroad after 40 years. He was a member of Gardendale First Baptist Church where he was a worker at Camp David for 20 years, loving the fellowship and accomplishments the men made. Preceding him in death were: his grandson, Kevin Wilson, his father, George Paulard Owens, his mother, Tommie Owens, his sister, Julia Johnson, his brother, William Paulard Owens, his sister Mary Belle Briley. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Bessie Sims Owens, his children: Susan Johnsey (Doyle), Rodney Owens, Linda Wilson Ponder (Tony), his grandchildren: Joshua Johnsey (Lauren), Joy Wint (Billy), Sheena Wilson, Jessica Hinshaw (Robert), Jacob Johnsey (Lara), Blake Wilson, three great-grandchildren: Cooper Johnsey, Sawyer Johnsey, and Gwyneth Hinshaw. Brother, George Owens (Lucretia) of Fairhope, sister Tommie West of Leeds, sister-in-law Nova Collier, son-in-law, Larry Wilson and several nieces and nephews, and many, many friends. The joy of his life was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The viewing will be Wednesday, October 12, from 5:30 until 8 pm and funeral service will be Thursday, October 13 beginning at 11 am at Ridout's Gardendale chapel with Burial in Oakwood Memorial Gardens with Navy Honors
