Ada Webster Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 10, 2013.

Ada Pemberton Webster, age 94, beloved aunt, passed away on July 9, 2013.
Ada was born on August 29, 1918 in Houston, Texas to Robert Scott Pemberton and Grace Waterwall Pemberton. She attended Lanier Junior High and San Jacinto High School. She then graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BA in 1940. She later earned a MA from the University of Houston.
Ada loved children and devoted most of her life to educating young minds. She taught sixth grade at Foster Place, Cleveland and Fannin Elementary Schools. She then became principal of Fannin, MacGregor and Durkee Elementary Schools until her retirement in 1976. Ada was also a member of and held offices in several organizations including The Order of the Eastern Star, Kappa Delta Pi and Texas Retired Teachers.
Ada loved and married late in life. At the age of 52 she married Robert William Webster who preceded her in 1995. They had 23 years together, traveling the world and enjoying retirement at their home on Lake LBJ in Kingsland, Texas.
Ada's greatest joy and source of strength and comfort was her knowledge of Christian Science. From the early 1950's through the 1970's she taught Sunday School and was the Superintendent of Sunday School at First Church of Christ, Scientist. She later became an active member of Seventh Church of Christ, Scientist.
Ada was preceded in death by her beloved older sister, Mary Ellen Pemberton Bowie. She is survived by her nieces, Sheila Woolley Geanangel and husband Russell and Anne Bowie Allen of Topeka, Kansas; nephew, Neil Bowie and wife Kim, of Muenster, Texas; very special great nieces, Elizabeth LaCombe and husband David, of Spokane, Washington and Anne-Marie Melendez and husband Edward, of San Antonio, Texas. She is also survived by her great-great nephew, Michael Manos and wife Thea and their baby Edward, who brought her much joy.
The family wishes to thank Pat Martin and the skilled, compassionate staff of Clarewood House Extended Care for their care during the last three years of Ada's life.
The family will receive friends at a visitation to be held on Saturday, July 13, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a funeral services immediately following at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079. Interment will follow the service at the same location.

It was Miss Pemberton at the time I was at Cleveland Elementary in 1951. She was my High 6th grade teacher. I remember her very well. She was a no-nonsense teacher. "Raise your hand if you want to be recognized", but yet she had a fun side to her as well. I want to extend my condolences to her family for their Aunts loss. I have good memories of her to this day and I am 75yrs old.

What a great legacy of education she has left Houston with, but I remember her better for the great times we had with her and Mr. Robert at their home on lake LBJ.. My brother and I , literally spent more time in the water than on land over the course of a weekend there and Mrs. Webster always had some great desert to spoil us with. We will always remember , love and miss them. RIP. I can just see the Giant smile on Mr. Websters face as you pass through the pearly gates and the two of you are together once again , two people ment to be together.

It is incredible to see this obituary because as I was driving to work this morning, I was thinking about Miss Pemberton. She was the Principal at Fannin Elementary School when I attended first grade there. Being I graduated high school in 1972, it was a long time ago that I was in first grade. Everyday after lunch, our teacher made the class lay their heads on the desk and rest a bit. I got to go spend that time every day in Miss Pemberton's office. This was such a privilege, one I looked forward to everyday. Thinking back, maybe I was allowed that privilege since I wasn't good while the naptime was going on, but I like to think of it as my prize since I had never been a napper and didn't need that time after lunch.... I am so happy she found love in the later years. I have thought about this woman so many times over all these years. She was the BEST!
