I looked up to Byrd all my life and appreciated his way of looking at things. He lived a simple and private life in an often complicated world. Irene, you made that possible for him. You will no doubt find the help you need at every turn in dealing with your loss. Take solace in that Byrd is at peace now and I hope you soon find the peace and comfort you so deserve. Stay strong, as you have always been.

In the 47 years I've known Byrd, he shared with me some interesting concepts he held about life during our numerous conversations over the years. The most important being "to thine own self be true". He lived according to his own set of principles, displaying an overwhelming sense of generosity, caring, tolerance, and thoughtfulness which he richly shared with people who touched his life, especially those who manifested the same kind of familial love and kindness he assumed his entire life. This highly respected and learned man will, most assuredly, retain a special memory in the lives of all those who truly knew him best. There is no doubt you will be justly rewarded for the life you've led, Byrd.No one I know is more deserving.
