He was born in Wellsville, NY and came to Brevard in 1989 from Clinton, IA. He was the Vice President of Brevard Community College and President of Palm Bay Community College. Dr. Adelbert J. Purga, 62, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Cape Canaveral Hospital. He was born in Wellsville, NY and came to Brevard in 1989 from Clinton, IA.
He was the Vice President of Brevard Community College and President of Palm Bay Community College.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Margaret; son, Jonathan; cousin and lifelong friend, Nickolas DiCerbo and his wife Ann; numerous nieces, nephews, and family.
He was predeceased by his mother and father, Susan and Adelbert Purga.
Besides being Administrator of several colleges, he was a consultant for many other colleges around the country as a member and leader of the Council for Academic Accreditation of Community Colleges. He was widely published in his field of higher education and received numerous accolades in his professional capacity.
Calling hours will be from 5:00 to 6:30 pm, Monday, August 13, 2012. A short celebration of life from 6:30 to 7:00 pm at Wylie-Baxley Merritt Island Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, August 14th at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, Merritt Island, to celebrate his life.
