This was a friendly, capable, steady man who made wood shop safe and lots of fun. His class in 7th grade introduced me to working with wood as a form of artistic expression, a medium I still work in today. I wish I had had a chance to thank Mr. Barr. As it is, a little piece of his energy and enthusiasm is in every piece I produce. A wonderful man.

Alan was one of my classmates in the Matawan School District from first grade through graduation from Matawan Regional High School in 1963. He was going to be part of our 50th class Reunion October 26th.

He was always an upbeat, creative and involved student and friend. He was well liked by all and will be greatly missed. As a classmate we all liked and respected Alan. I have great sympathy for his loved ones.

Great teacher and interesting to talk to. One of those teachers everybody remembers. I remember he would scribble in pencil on your project if it wasn't sanded well enough so you had to re-sand it to remove the pencil. No cheating allowed in his class. LOL RIP Mr Barr.

Mr. Barr taught me many skills I use to this day. He was a great teacher and will be remembered fondly by all of the people he taught over the years.
My sincerest condolences to Judy and her family.

Alan meant so much to so many. He guided me and all his students through so many projects, taught us patience, and gave us pride in ourselves. All of his students have nothing except praise for him. He was wonderful. I was fortunate enough to work in his shop on Galloping Hill Road during college, and my love for woodworking blossomed there. Thanks to Alan, I was able to carry on the art of working with wood, had my own shops, and still continue to build furniture. If he hadn't taught me how to use tools correctly (I nearly sawed off a finger once, but he pushed me back in time) I was able to build my own log cabin and furnish it. I still have the first beautiful bookshelf he helped me build, and a beautiful Jewelry box he made me for my 21st. Birthday, signed by him. I've always cherished them, as I will his smiling face, guidance, and friendship. I'm so sorry for your loss--
