I was saddened to hear of the passing of Alan Dunn. I had heard many wonderful things about him as a teacher. I finally had the pleasure to meet him in 2009 and will always remember his sweet smile and kind disposition. My thoughts and condolences to the Dunn family.

Al was a superb Chairman of the StCPL Library Board during a very critical time in the library's history. It was a privilege to have him at the helm, working tirelessly with senior management & City Hall to achieve positive results. He was at all times simply a lovely man. I saw him at a funeral in 2010 & was able to chat about old times. He didn't look well, but was the same Al I had known. Deepest sympathies to the family. Sincerely, Kathy Cochrane, RR2 Kemble, ON

I will always remember Mr Dunn as a dedicated professional who was able to command the respect of students simply through his consistently calm demeanour and charismatic presence and without ever having o raise his voice. Unfortunately, I will be unable to attend the service to be held in his hounour this Saturday but am grateful for having had the opportunity to re-unite with Al at a BBQ the summer before last and to share some thoughts and memories. We early students of Lakeport were very fortunate to have had such a great group of teachers to hang out with and be mentored by during our vulnerable years. To me, the world was not quite as a classy a place on Monday morning. I had hoped for more chats.

I am extremely saddened to hear of Mr. Dunn's passing. He was such a great help to me when he was principal at Merritton High school, and was always a great inspiration to his students. my memories of him are all filled with smiles, and laughter - like the time he allowed the students to shave off his beard as a prize for raising enough money in a fundraising campaign, and the time he took part in mudwrestling in the school gym, for the same reason. He will be greatly missed. Mr. Dunn left a legacy that will be hard to match. RIP.

Beryl and I were greatly saddened to hear of Al Dunn's passing. I taught in his English Department at Lakeport for two years, and fondly remember some riotous moments fostered by his ready wit and penchant for fun. Shortly after I left the school he served admirably as best man at our wedding--forty short years ago. Our deepest sympathies to his family.

Al hired me at Merritton High School in 1990, and I will be forever grateful. He was a kind, gentle soul who had a great sense of humor and a twinkle in his eyes. He will be missed!

It was a privilege to have Al as a colleague during my years at Lakeport! He brought extraordinary intelligence and wit to gatherings whether social or professional. His positive contributions to individual students and to the school's functioning overall cannot be overstated. On a personal note, we shared a passion for jazz which I enjoyed discussing with him.

Mr Dunn was my English Teacher at Lakeport. He was an inspiration to many. When I told my Dad(Harry) who my English teacher was he said "The Dunner" . Mr Dunn also shared with me a few stories of his highschool years with my father. My sympathies to all of the family. A great Teacher will be missed.
Sincerely,

Mr. Dunn was my English teacher many years ago at Lakeport HS - his was a class I always looked forward to - he instilled in me a lasting love for the english language and the world is a sadder place for his passing - my prayers are with his family.

Al was a good friend when we were at UWO. He had such a wry wit and the wonderful ability to twist the English language to suit his purpose. I laugh to think of it even now.
My most sincere condolences to the family.

I knew Al and Barbara as neighbours for many years. As a librarian I knew him as a canny reader, and knew how much he suffered in 2005 with the deaths of Barbara and Michael. Al loved books, and was a generous man committed to his community, and with wide reading interests. My condolences to his family.

Al was a neighbour and friend. I will miss his cheerful and respectful greetings. We shared an interest in education and old sports cars. I loved to hear the stories of his early days in Winnipeg. He was a member of the 'old school' who made that label shine.
His admiration, love, and respect for his wife Barbara were unfailing. I will never forget the pride he demonstrated when showing me her paintings hanging in the living room.

My sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Dunn. He was my English teacher many years ago, and introduce me to the poet Robert Frost which I still enjoy reading his poems. Mr. Dunn had a away to get the message across to us technical students. Thank you, God Bless
