Albert L. Kessler Jr., 81, of Beachwood, passed away at Community Medical Center in Toms River on Wednesday, April 24, 2013. In 1932, he was born in Lakewood to Albert & Lavina Kessler. He attended St. Mary of the Lake School in Lakewood and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951. In 1954, he married the love of his life Margaret Arneth. Together they had 5 children, 14 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. Albert retired from the Naval Air Station in Lakehurst as Fire Captain of the Fire Department and Crash and Rescue Squad in 1985. He then worked for the Ocean County Sewage Authority for 10 years, as a crossing guard for Beachwood, and also the beach and boat dock patrol. He was a member of the Emergency Management of Beachwood and also served as Deputy Co-ordinator. Mr. Kessler was a member of St. Barnabas Parish in Bayville, and was a fourth degree PFK member of The Knights of Columbus in Toms River Council 4969 and PGN of Council 8603 of Bayville.
Albert was predeceased by his son, Albert; his granddaughter, Victoria Campbell; his son-in-law, Thomas Heaney; and his sister, Evelyn Valentin. He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret; his son, David of Whiting; his daughters, Joanne Guild of Beachwood, and Margaret Campbell and Catherine Farrington of Toms River; his brother, Joseph Kessler of Manahawkin; his sister, Rose Aldridge of Lincoln, Alabama; and his much loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, April 29 at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 30 at St. Barnabas Church, Woodland Road, Bayville. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River.
