Albertina (Alfonse) Barboza, age 88, of Dartmouth passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011 in St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford. She was the wife of Ernest M. Barboza to whom she had been married for 68 years.
Born in New Bedford the daughter of the late Antone and Filomena (Rodriques) Alfonse, she spent most of her life in New Bedford before moving to Dartmouth 30 years ago. Mrs. Barboza was employed as a Stitcher for over 40years with Alberta Sportswear and Mar-Lil Sportswear. She was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church and a member of the Women's Guild. She was active in the South End Golden Agers, the Dartmouth Senior Center and member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. She loved to cook, go out to eat, sewing, crafts, traveling with the seniors and spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband she is survived by her daughter Joyce A. Travers of Dartmouth, a granddaughter Robin Cabral of New Bedford, a granddaughter in law Laurie Travers of Dartmouth; two grandsons Bryan and Andrew Travers; three sister in laws Laurie Clark, Agnes Gaspar and Hilda Cordeiro; three God Children Shirley Perry, David Souza and Joanne Maura and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Barboza was also the grandmother of the late Robert Travers Jr., grandmother in law of the late Dennis Cabral; sister of the late Mary Perry, Rose Souza, Joseph, Antone, Julio and Charles Alfonse; sister in law of the late Mary Pacheco and Olive Teixeira.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 9am from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT DARTMOUTH 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth followed by her funeral mass at 10am in St. Julie Billiart Church 494 Slocum Rd., Dartmouth. Visiting hours Wednesday from 4-7pm. Flowers welcome or memorial contributions in her honor may be made to Southcoast Centers for Cancer Care 101 Page St., New Bedford, MA 02740.
