Alberto "Sonny" Gomes, Jr., 83, of Dartmouth, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth.
Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Alberto and Olivia (Gomes) Gomes.
Mr. Gomes was a United States Air Force Veteran having served during the Korean War.
He had worked as a membership attendant at the YMCA in New Bedford for over 40 years.
Sonny was an avid tennis player who loved music and played several instruments. He also enjoyed motorcycle riding, antique cars and was an animal lover.
Surviving relatives include his sister, Cynthia Morris of Dartmouth; two nephews, Victor J. Morris, Jr. of Florida and Derek Morris of Dartmouth; a great nephew, Kyle Morris of Illinois; a sister like figure, Marilyn Gonsalves of New Bedford; and two aunts, Mildred Lopes of New Bedford and Alice Gomes of Providence He was the brother-in-law of the late Victor J. Morris. He is also survived by several cousins.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2013 from 10am - 11:30am followed by a funeral service at 11:30am in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Alberto's memory may be made to the Humane Society & Shelter- Southcoast, 31 Ventura Dr., Dartmouth, MA 02747.
