Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 27, 2013.

Albin "Tony" Pribyl, 93, of Victoria, passed away Friday, January 25, 2013, following a short illness.

Born on January 19, 1920 in Guadalupe, Tx, he was the son of the late Ivan Pribyl and Theresie (Janota) Pribyl of Victoria County, Tx.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ima Belle (Rodgers) Pribyl, and second wife, Bertha (Lobprise) Seiler Pribyl.

Albin was also preceded in death by three siblings, Ivan, Libuska, and Eddie Pribyl; grandparents, William and Frances (Sedelmeyer) Pribyl, Thomas and Anna (Vitek) Janota, all of Victoria, Texas; and one step-son, Ernie Seiler.

He is survived by three nephews, Billy (the late Mary Lou) Pribyl, David (Bettye) Pribyl and Gary (Sarah) Pribyl, all of Victoria. Four step-children, August (Jane) Seiler, Jim (Maryjean) Seiler, Richard (Judy) Seiler, and Debbie (Jim) Crenshaw.

He entered the US Army in June of 1942 and served in five WWII campaigns including Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. During WWII he was assigned to the 3rd Army and supplied front line troops. He was honorably discharged in December 1945 and was a member of the VFW #4146 for over 65 years.

One of his proudest moments was when he was presented the following medals by Congressman Ron Paul for his service in WWII: the American Theater Campaign, EAME Campaign medal with five bronze stars, the Good Conduct Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, the United Nations Medal, the American Defense Commemorative medal WWII, the WWII D-Day June 1944 Landing in France medal, the WWII Battle of the Bulge Commemorative medal, the Europe-Middle East WWII Commendation medal, and the Five Star Campaign medal with Five Stars.

He retired from Alcoa and continued to farm at his home in DaCosta. On June 3, 2010 he was honored by the Texas Department of Agriculture with the Family Land Heritage Program Award, which recognizes families who have continuously farmed and ranched the same land for 100 years.

Throughout his lifetime he was an avid hunter and fisherman. In his later years he particularly looked forward to attending the Edna and Victoria Country Oprys. He would faithfully do his "laps" around his living room just to keep up his strength so he could go to the Opry on Tuesday night.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 29, at Rosewood Funeral Home, 3304 Mockingbird Lane in Victoria. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, Jan 30, at 2 p.m. at Shillerville Cemetery.
