Alcenia H. Clayton was born on October 12, 1930 in Person County, North Carolina. Daughter of Stephen Hamlett and Elizabeth Beatrice Hamlett, she was the third of twelve children born to this union. Alcenia took her spiritual flight on Monday, November 21, 2016.
Alcenia relocated to New York where she attended primary school PS39 in Far Rockaway, NY completing her education. She entered the work force as a young woman at Queens General Hospital and later relocated to Kings County Hospital. There she became a Laundry Supervisor where she retired after thirty four years. Upon retiring from public service, Alcenia traveled and spent time with her family and friends. She attended Church of God in Christ in Far Rockaway where she was an active member.
She was the wife of James Harris Clayton, of this union was born one child, deceased. Alcenia leaves six sisters and one brother. Tassie Kendrick, Pearl Hamlett, Gladys Wilson, Carolyn Hamlett, Joyce Smith, Doris Hooks, and brother Arthur Hamlett. She is survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
Our beloved sister, auntie, nana, grandmother to some and friend to many. Alcenia's family will forever remember her open arms to all, her loving spirit and her kindness. She will forever be in our hearts.
