Gribbins, Aleck Jr. "Grib", 90, passed away on September 6, 2013. He was born on February 18, 1923. Grib graduated from Louisville Male High School in 1941. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was a Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a 60 year member of the Masonic Plumb Lodge. Mr. Gribbins was an auctioneer and real estate broker for over 40 years in Louisville conducting over 2,500 auctions. He was the owner of Gribbins Auction House, a family business and a South Louisville institution for over 25 years, formally located at Taylor Blvd. and Central Ave. He was a life time member, past Director...
Gribbins, Aleck Jr. "Grib", 90, passed away on September 6, 2013.
He was born on February 18, 1923. Grib graduated from Louisville Male High School in 1941. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was a Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a 60 year member of the Masonic Plumb Lodge.
Mr. Gribbins was an auctioneer and real estate broker for over 40 years in Louisville conducting over 2,500 auctions. He was the owner of Gribbins Auction House, a family business and a South Louisville institution for over 25 years, formally located at Taylor Blvd. and Central Ave.
He was a life time member, past Director and President of the Kentucky Auctioneers Association. He was inducted into the Kentucky Auctioneers Hall of Fame in 1984.
Aleck was especially honored to have been appointed by several governors of the Commonwealth of Kentucky to terms totaling 15 years as a commissioner on the Kentucky Board of Auctioneers, serving nine of those years as Chairman.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Betty (Grosshans), his daughter Janet Sullivan (John), his sons Joe (Phyllis), Jeff, John (Deneé), James (Sherri); 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and sisters Bernice Wise and Doris Gribbins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elic and Stella, brother James, sisters Lonnie Carter, Dean Lenhart, Audrey Rigdon, Clorsey Berry, Edith Kinard.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to our special family friend Claris Udd and to the entire staff at Heartland (formally Christopher East) Nursing Home Arcadia unit staff the "Arcadia Angels". The "Arcadia Angels" professionalism, attention, and affection was truly a blessing for Grib and his family.
A funeral service to honor the life of Aleck "Grib" will be held at 12 noon Monday, September 9, 2013 with burial to follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1-8pm on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at the funeral home.
