Obituary

Alex "Popsie" Cook passed peacefully on December 12, 2012. He was born in Bangalore, South India on March 19, 1922. He was named after his two grandparents, Alexander Koch of Los Angeles and Clarence Fox, of Elmira, NY. His parents, Robert Cook and Bertha Fox Cook, went out as missionaries to India, where they met, married, and had three boys, George, Alex, and Paul. The boys attended a British boarding school in the Nilgiri Hills of South India until 1939 when Alex and Paul were brought home to the States by their parents. Alex "Popsie" Cook passed peacefully on December 12, 2012. He was born in Bangalore, South India on March 19, 1922. He was named after his two grandparents, Alexander Koch of Los Angeles and Clarence Fox, of Elmira, NY. His parents, Robert Cook and Bertha Fox Cook, went out as missionaries to India, where they met, married, and had three boys, George, Alex, and Paul. Alex briefly attended Bob Jones College in Cleveland TN before joining the Army Air Corps in World War II. He served two years in England in the 384th Fighter Squadron as a radar technician, attaining the rank of Sergeant. After the war he graduated from Syracuse University in New York and moved to Denver where he became an accountant. He subsequently moved to Boulder in 1961 where he practiced as a Certified Public Accountant until his retirement in 1987.
Alex was a long-time member of the Elks Lodge and the Boulder Lions Club, in which he served as president and was District Governor of Lions District 6-C in 1992. He was also interested in stamp collecting and rock collecting, having served as the president of the Boulder Stamp Club and the Flatirons Mineral Club. He was also chairman of the Denver Mineral Show for two years.
Alex is survived by his wife, Carolyn Ratcliff Cook, and his four children, Stephanie Jean Thompson, David Edward Cook, David Lee Cook and his wife Donna, Carol Sue Greene and her husband Rick, and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 16 in the chapel at the First Presbyterian Church, 1820 15th Street in Boulder.
