Alexandre M. Mendes, 70, of Danbury, beloved husband of Fernanda Mendes, passed away at Danbury Hospital on Monday, December 15, 2014.
Alexandre was born in Portugal, son of the late Joaquim and Louisa (Marques) Mendes. He attended school in Portugal and immigrated to the United States in 1970, where he went to work as a machine operator for the former Amphenol Company until his retirement. He was a longtime member of the Portuguese Cultural Center and the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son George Mendes of New York City, his daughter Irene DaSilva of Brookfield, two grandchildren Jonathan and Kaden DaSilva, his sister Helena Lopes of Danbury, his brothers Graciano and Jose Mendes of France and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers: Antonio, David and Ataide Mendes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
