So sad to hear of such a great loss. My heart goes out to his family and my dear friend Cathryn! Thank you so much for sharing such a wonderful man with us. Nathan truly enjoyed his visit, and what a wonderful life he lived. I'm very thankful for the time we shared. His stories will forever be a legacy he gifted to my son.

Al will be greatly missed. He was a longtime friend of my parents, Murray and Kathryn Skaggs. When Helen passed away, I know he was heartbroken and visited her grave regularly. He was of great help to my Dad when my Mom passed away. I will be forever grateful to him. He was one of the kindest, generous and likeable people I have ever met. I can see him now, sitting on his front porch in Ruidoso with his pipe and his beloved dog, waving and talking to everyone that went by. The last time I saw Al was at my father's memorial service. He was a true friend to the very end. We will miss you dearly. I know you are glad to be back with the love of your life. Give sweet Helen a hug and kiss from me. Our loss here on earth is definitely Heaven's gain. Love to the family!

I echo what my daughter, Kaley, wrote. Al was a "people person" and a kindred soul to all he met. A wonderful and dedicated family man who was always there for his beloved Helen. They are back in each others arms again, long at last, and I'm sure he has been given the Heaven Social Director position upon arrival. Rest in peace, dear Al.

To put it simply, Mr. Alois was truly a joy to be around. He owned a cabin in Ruidoso, New Mexico, just down the road from my grandparents, the Skaggs, with whom he was very close. Over the years, he came to know my parents, Wade and Terri Johnson, as well, and couldn't have been more wonderful to me and my family. I have so many memories growing up that involve Al in Ruidoso; taking walks through the Upper Canyon, playing with Benji, his beloved dog, and sharing stories of all the bear sightings around his cabin, which was always the most exciting part of my day as a child. Years later, we moved into a home in a different part of Arlington, where we were all from, and as fate would have it, we just so happened to buy the house diagonally across the street from Al!
I will forever treasure the touching card he sent me in 2008 for my high school graduation and all of the many memories my family made with that sweet, sweet man.

It was our custom to always honk our horn when driving by the Alois cabin, even long after he was no longer there. Here's one last honk, Al. You are missed.
