Alfred Biegert Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 24, 2017.

Alfred J. Biegert Jr. of Austin passed from this life to the next on June 22, 2017, at the age of 94. Al was born on May 14, 1923, in Burke, VA. When he was one, his family moved to San Antonio, TX, where he resided until 2010, when he and his wife moved to Austin. Al graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1941. Al was a WWII Army Air Corps veteran who enlisted on December 7, 1942, and saw service as a military photo lab technician throughout the South Pacific Theater, ending in Japan. After the war, he attended Southwest Photo Arts Institute in Dallas, where he became a professional photographer. He worked for several studios in San Antonio where he photographed many weddings. In 1964 he began a civil service career at the Randolph AFB photo lab where he remained for 23 years. His many interests included: writing poetry, gardening, fishing, birdhouse building, extensively decorating for holidays, and patrolling his neighborhood as a citizen on patrol. Al loved the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs, wearing his autographed "George Gervin" ball cap almost as often as his WWII Vet cap. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Evelyn Rees Biegert, son Larry Biegert and daughter-in-law Melissa Langley Biegert of Austin, grandsons Austin and Hunter, brother-in-law Arthur Rees & sister-in-law Joann Rees of Austin, sister-in-law Charlene Rees of Nacogdoches, and other extended relatives. He is preceded in death by his brother, Wilton Biegert, and nephew, Doug Biegert, both of Richardson.

Services will be held on Tuesday, June 27 at Sunset Funeral Home 1701 Austin Hwy. San Antonio, TX. Chapel services will begin at 2:30 with a reception immediately following until 5pm.

After only having met him just one time, I can say this: I may not remember all the things he said to me, I may not remember all the details of the things he proudly explained to me that he did (in WWII), but I remember how he made me FEEL: HONORED to have met him that one time.

Your loss is great. May you find eventual peace in the love and warm thoughts from family and friends.

Al had so many natural God-Given talents and assets: compassion, honesty,
tenderhearted, trustworthy, and an intellect for quick-original-wit and humor.
He was "one of a kind" and those of us who knew him for so many years as a friend, always felt like we were with "family." As a "terrific team of two," Al and Evelyn left their collective smiles and foot prints as "GOD'S CHILDREN" in the hearts of their friends and family.
Until we meet again, friend Al. Martha Fackler

Al was a such a special man. I have so many memories of him from family gatherings. He looked so much like my dad, who was his cousin. Some of my favorite memories are of taking him and Evelyn to a Spurs game and getting a copy of the poem he wrote for George Gervin. One day, about 10 or 12 years ago, he called me up and wanted to go hiking in Government Canyon State Natural area. It was brand new and we didn't know much about the trails or that there was no place to sit a rest along the trail we took. We hiked 7 miles! Somehow, we both survived the heat and inadequate supply of water. My deepest sympathies go to Evelyn, Larry and Melissa, Al's grandsons, and all his family and friends who will miss his wonderful sense of humor and love of life.

Such a wonderful man. He was a great story teller, poetry writer, fisherman, and friend. I will always treasure knowing him.

Such happy memories of joy-filled times with my dad's funny cousin, Al! He and Evelyn are responsible for introducing my parents to each other in 1956 - and I am grateful!

Al was such a joy and friend for so many years. His wonderful sense of humor kept many of us smiling all of the time we were with him. Evelyn and Larry, we share your sorrow in losing Al, but he is surely smiling down on us from above.
