1929-2012

Fred Cartier of Pebble Beach, passed away peacefully from cancer at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, on Sunday, December 2, 2012, surrounded by his loving family.

Fred is survived by his wife of 20 years, Grace Cartier; his daughters, Collette Cartier and Monique (Glen) Cartier-Rowe and his stepson, Geoffrey Norlock. His step-grandsons, Jake Davis, Geoffrey Norlock Jr., and Bodie Norlock also survive Fred. He was preceded in death by his step-son, George Norlock, Jr.

Fred was born on April 27, 1929, in Boston, Massachusetts, to René and Louise Cartier. He spent his formative years in Monaco. Later Fred returned to the United States and attended Sacred Heart Prep School on the East Coast, completed his Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of Connecticut, and earned his Master's Degree at Columbia University. Fred also served in the U.S. Navy.

In his early years, Fred was a competitive ski jumper. He was also an avid tennis player and fan and played throughout his life, up until his recent, short illness. He loved traveling the world with his wife, Grace. The couple spent many vacations on the Ile St. Louis, in Paris, France, as he loved the City of Lights and all things Parisian.

An avid 49er fan, Fred spent many game days with friends, cheering on his favorite team.

Fred retired as Sr. Vice President and manager of M.L. Stern & Co. Inc., an office that he opened in the early 1980's. Fred was mentor and friend to many of the Monterey Peninsula's financial investment professionals.

Funeral Services will be held at The Little Chapel by-the-Sea, on the premises of El Carmelo Cemetery in Pacific Grove, at one o'clock, Friday, December 7, 2012. To sign Fred's guest book and leave messages for his family, please visit www.thepaulmortuary.com.

The Cartier family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Community Hospital for their kind, loving support during this difficult time.
