Alfred Lamar Killebrew, 88, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014. Al was a native and resident of Anniston. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and World War II. He earned his bachelor degree from The University of South Carolina and his masters from New York University. Al was a furniture merchant in Anniston for over 50 years. He was a long time member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church and a Lifetime Member of the Anniston Civitan Club where he served as President from 2002-2003. He served on the Board of Directors at the Anniston National Bank, Stringfellow Hospital as well as the Golden Springs Nursing Home. Mr....
Alfred Lamar Killebrew, 88, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014. Al was a native and resident of Anniston. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and World War II. He earned his bachelor degree from The University of South Carolina and his masters from New York University. Al was a furniture merchant in Anniston for over 50 years. Mr. Killebrew was preceded in death by his parents, James Homer Killebrew, Sr. and Onzelle LaTaste Killebrew, his sisters, Elaine Killebrew Evans (Thomas G.), Mildred Killebrew Worsham (Allen), and Vivian Killebrew Bolen. He is survived by his brother James Homer Killebrew, Jr. (Gerry) of Escondido, CA and his brother-in-law, William O. Bolen, Sr. of Birmingham, AL. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Sue Evans Wille, Sally Evans Schenk (Everett), Vivian Evans Duncan (Charlie), Gladys Worsham Cannon (Woody), Linda Worsham Voltz, Allen Jackson Worsham (Mona), Terri Killebrew Csete (Bill), Jane Killebrew Galeski (Paul), John Alfred Killebrew (Kristin), William Ossian Bolen, Jr. (Patti), Mallory Bolen Whitaker (Dan), Jennifer Bolen DuBose (Brent), Sandra Bolen Ballard (Rob) and a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Al was a kind and generous person, a true gentleman. He was extremely devoted to his family spending many years caring for his parents. He spent years in the family business to carry on a tradition and legacy. He was dearly loved and will be missed by so many. The family wishes to thank all the many caregivers that helped our beloved brother and uncle. A special thanks to his dear friend and business associate, Harvey Campbell, who has been so supportive over the years.
A graveside service will be held at Highland Cemetery Tuesday, July 15 at 1 p.m. and serving as pallbearers will be his great nephews. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Parker Memorial Baptist Church.
