Alice D. "Sis" Bremer, died peacefully on Thursday, July 4, 2013 at the age of 98. Resident of the Sheboygan Senior Community of Sheboygan, WI and longtime resident of Milwaukee and Elkhart Lake. Beloved wife for 68 years of the late Harry E. Bremer. Loving mother of Robert H. Bremer of Bear Creek, WI, David C. Bremer (Gretchen) of Plymouth, WI, and Jere E. Bremer (Diane) of Kohler, WI. Beloved wife for 68 years of the late Harry E. Bremer. Loving mother of Robert H. Bremer of Bear Creek, WI, David C. Bremer (Gretchen) of Plymouth, WI, and Jere E. Bremer (Diane) of Kohler, WI. Proud grandmother of Heidi Bremer (Glenn Goudy), Wendy Bolland (David), Karen Bierman (Richard), and Denise Bremer. Caring great-grandmother of Claire, Andrew, Michael, Elizabeth, Megan and Christopher. Further survived by other relatives and good friends.
Born July 23, 1914, Alice was the daughter of Minnie and Adolph Denniston of Park Ridge, IL. She was preceded in death by three brothers.
Alice was educated at Main Township High School in Illinois, Rockford College, and the School of Journalism, Northwestern University, Evanston, IL. She also received credits in Abnormal Psychology at UW-Milwaukee. She was very involved in the founding of the National Association for the Mentally Retarded and was Vice-President of that organization for a number of years. Alice worked tirelessly for the St. Colleta of Wisconsin School for the Mentally Challenged in Jefferson, WI.
Alice was a member of the Organization of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) and grew up playing field hockey, basketball and was an enthusiastic swimmer. She loved Elkhart Lake and was involved with many groups and organizations there, namely, the Elkhart Lake Women's Study Club, the 9 Hole League at Quit Qui Oc Golf Club, "Toshi Girls" Investment Club, EIFS Investment Club and many other activities. She loved to read, knit, and garden. Alice and Harry (H.E.) thoroughly enjoyed traveling the world and would spend time in Florida, Mexico, and Arizona in the winters. Many happy memories will always remain.
Private family services will be held.
A charitable gift fund in Alice's name has been established at Community Bank, 274 Osthoff Avenue, Elkhart Lake, WI 53020.
The family of Alice would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the second floor nursing home staff at the Sheboygan Senior Community, in particular, Wendy, for the compassion and care shown to her.
Alice's graciousness, quiet dignity, good humor and love touched the lives of many people throughout her life and she will be deeply missed.
