Alice was preceded in death by her father and mother, the late Walter and Margaret James, and her sister, Sylvia Long. She is survived by her sister and brother, Evelyn Overton and Herbert James, and husband of 61 years, J. Ed "Bud" Smith, all of Largo, FL. Alice is also survived by her daughters, Laurie Goodrich-Peters of Largo; Jeanne Lanham (husband, Butch) of Dalton, GA; Martha Hughes (husband, Paul) of Irmo, SC; and son, Scott Smith (wife, Lisa) of Grayson, GA. In addition, Alice is survived by her 11 grandchildren including Rob Goodrich (wife, Terri), Julie Goodrich, Samuel Lanham, Abigail Lanham, Nathan Lanham (wife, Elizabeth), Miriam Lanham, Jessica Loveland (husband, Beach), Danielle Russell (husband, Aaron), Lauren Hughes, Meagan Smith & Zack Smith and 8 great grand-children including Alex Goodrich, Bryson Lanham, Emma Lanham, Zoe Loveland, Shiloh Loveland, Ezra Loveland, Adalyn Russell & Lydia Russell.

Alice was a farm girl from Spencer, Iowa, born June 9, 1925. After attending the University of Northern Iowa, where she studied elementary education, Alice taught school in a 1-room Iowa schoolhouse. Following WWII, Alice moved to Tampa, FL where she met her husband, Ed, in the choir at Bayshore UMC. Over the years, both Ed and Alice were very active in numerous church ministries at Bayshore, First Church and Van Dyke United Methodist Churches.

Ed and Alice moved to Largo, FL in 2006 where they have resided since (at Pinecrest Place). They have been active members at Anona United Methodist Church.

Alice was known for her beautiful smile, and for her love and joy for life. She continuously demonstrated a genuine care and prayerful concern for others. Alice was a follower of Christ, and in Him she placed her faith and life!

The family extends a special thanks to the kind and gentle care provided by Largo Medical Center's Neuro ICU and to Suncoast Hospice Care Center – Mid-Pinellas.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in memory of Alice Smith to Metropolitan Ministries, https://www.metromin.org/give.
