Alma Louise Alderson Bryant, 91, of Chesapeake, went home to be with Jesus on March 14, 2017. She was a faithful member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Kanawha City.
Alma was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, John Wade Bryant; her mother, Grace Raines Alderson and her father, Lawrence Alderson from Rainelle; and her brother, Arnett Alderson.
Left to cherish her memory are her brothers, J.R. (Frances) Alderson of Crawley and Tuffy Alderson of Greenbrier County; sisters, Clarice Reppell of St. Louis, Missouri and Dreama Rhodes of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; sisters-in-law, Virginia (Alvin) Meadows of Crawley and Margaret Chance of Florida; children, Glen Ray Bryant of Nashville, Tennessee, Gary W. (Susie) Bryant of Chesapeake, Patty (Steve) Cathers of Kanawha City and Vickie Sword of Salem, Virginia; 8 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Alma was a very special lady who was loved by everyone who knew her. She never met a stranger and loved to laugh. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her family. She enjoyed working in her yard, loving her cat and spending time at her camp in Greenbrier County. She was the caretaker of the family and spent her life caring for all of us. While we know that she loved us all, her best friend was her daughter, Patty.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 17, 2017, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with Pastor Gary Hall officiating. The committal and burial will follow the service at 2:00 p.m. at the End of The Trail Cemetery, Clintonville, Greenbrier County.
Her family and friends will gather for the visitation on Thursday, March 16, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

My Mom was such a special person. She touched so many lives and always had a smile and a hug for everyone. I have such beautiful memories of growing up with my family and doing things together. Mom was the sunshine that kept us all happy. She was always there when we needed her.
I miss her so much. Everywhere I go, every thought I have, she's there. I treasure my memories of things we did--drives down unfamiliar roads, picnics on the riverbank, going to her camp, doing yardwork, just being together.
My comfort is knowing she's in Heaven with Jesus and Daddy and that someday I will see her again.
I'll love you forever, Mom!

I open this page to see Mom's picture. I read the sweet words to get comfort from them. I listen to old voice mails that I've saved to hear her voice. My heart aches to feel her touch. But through all this, I know my mom is in heaven with Jesus, Daddy and her mom and dad, brother, and other family and friends. My true comfort is in knowing that I'll see her again; that God has promised me this wish. My mom was a special lady who touched many people. Her laugh was priceless, her beauty undeniable, and her heart tender. One more time I have to say "I love you, Mom." When you kissed me bye a couple of Sundays ago, you touched my face and I will forever feel that gentle touch. Vickie
