ALVIN HUGH GRAY JR, age 69 of Statham passed away Wednesday February 5, 2014. He retired from the United States Navy after 20 years of service. He also retired from Athens-Clarke County after 23 years serving as a fire fighter and a Communications Officer. He was a member of the Statham American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents; Alvin Hugh Sr. and Eunice Mae Aaron Gray, and a grandson. He is survived by his wife; Rita Gray of Statham, three sons; Kelly and Scott Gray of Belfair, WA and Brandon Hicks(Melissa) of Commerce, six daughters; Tammy Frost(Gregg) of Belfair, Sharon Goodwin(Mike) of Port Orchard, WA, Cheryl Ahart(Trace) of Canton, Sandra Brooks(Frank) of Bishop, Eileen Martin(David) of Winder and Amy Sims of Winder, two brothers; John W. Gray(Beverly) of Athens and Charlie L. Gray(Jerre) of Statham, a sister; Mary Gregory(Gary) of Arnoldsville, nineteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive. A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday February 9, 2014 in the Chapel of Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Howard Conine officiating. The family will recieve friends from 1 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home on Sunday.`
